Weather dependent!
Guided train trail hikes: Volunteers Andrea and Ron Kowalsky will take visitors on a guided walk along the route of William Gillette's narrow gauge train. Start at Grand Central Station, and walk the trails enjoying the numerous stone and wood remnants of construction that Gillette installed to make the trails interesting. Finish the walk at the bonfire and enjoy hot cider and snacks you can purchase at the Friends of Gillette Castle "Cider Station".
All hikes start at 2 p.m. and last approximately one hour and 15 min. The trails are mostly gentle and flat with some brief climbs. Wear sturdy shoes and warm clothing. Hikes will be offered on black Friday (November 25), December 3, and December 17.
Before or after the hike, you can stroll the decorated grounds and snap photos a-plenty! Take a self-guided hike with our hiking and history map, and stop by the Cider Station for hot cider, cocoa and snacks by the bonfire. The Cider Station also has fun for kids young and old with a scavenger hunt, castle coloring pages and holiday carols by the bonfire. We have daily raffles & souvenir shopping at Seventh Sister Souvenirs. We hope to see you soon!
The Castle is closed due to restoration but the grounds have plenty of holiday fun.
